The red soils of Adelaide a key feature of the course and nearby at Royal Adelaide, Glenelg and Kooyonga. I wanted this to come across in the paintings – which I think I captured pretty well. Much like golf in Melbourne there is plenty of exposed sandy ground alongside the holes – sometimes serving as a formal hazard and other times a peripheral feature adding to the feel of the course.
By this time and after much experimentation I had developed a style for drawing vegetation from above which was unique and I think fairly realistic. The style and contrast between the red sands and darker foliage of the pine trees was especially pleasing.
